Borrowing Information and Charges

How to join

It is free to join Haringey Libraries:

  • just fill in a form, and
  • show us 2 items of ID - both of which must be current and contain your name and address; such as a bill, a bank statement or your driving licence.

It is not possible to join online. The attached membership form may be printed off from the attached files section on this page.

  • If you live outside the London Borough of Haringey you must also show us your library card for your local library.
  • If you are an asylum seeker you need only provide one Home Office document containing your name and address.
  • If you are under 16, Section B on the front of the form must be completed and signed by your mother, father or your guardian.

What you can borrow

Library members can borrow books, books-on-cassette, LPs and toys free of charge. There is a small charge for borrowing music cassettes, CDs, DVDs and Video-tapes.

Members can borrow up to eight books, three videos and four CDs, cassettes or LPs (including one language course) to a total of 15 items.

You may keep each item for three weeks (six weeks for language courses). Videos, may only be borrowed for two days or for one week.

Music, Film and Spoken Word

In addition to books, all libraries stock music, film and spoken-word recordings. There are cassettes and CDs, videos and DVDs to borrow.

Library charges

General Charges

  • Reservations - standard rate = 80p
  • Reservations - senior citizens (60 years +) and concessions = 40p
  • Overdue books - per item per day = 15p
  • Maximum overdue charge per item = £5.00
  • Overdue charges for senior citizens (60 years and over) = no charge
  • Overdue charges for younger people (16 years and under) = no charge
  • Lost ticket replacement = £1.50
  • Lost ticket replacement for senior citizens (60 years and over) = 75p
  • Lost ticket replacement for younger people (16 years and under) = 75p

Audio Charges (per 3 week loan)

  • Audio cassettes - standard charge = 60p
  • Audio cassettes - concessions = 40p
  • CDs - standard charge = 90p
  • CDs - concession rates = 45p
  • Renewal fees - any item at the above rates

Spoken Word - Talking Books (per 3 week loan)

  • CDs unabridged = no charge
  • CDs abridged = no charge
  • Cassettes = no charge
  • Children's storytapes = no charge

Video / DVD (maximum of 4 videos / 3 DVDs)

  • Feature films = £2.50 per loan
  • All others = £1.00 per loan
  • Multi-DVDs (sets of 4 or more) = £4.00 per loan
  • Renewal fees - any item at the above rates

Copying / Printing / Computing Services

  • Black and white photocopies - A4 = £0.10
  • Black and white photocopies - A3 = £0.20
  • Colour photocopies - A4 = £0.50
  • Colour photocopies - A3 = £1.00
  • Printing from People's Network (black/white) = £0.10
  • Printing from People's Network (colour) = £0.50
  • Sale of floppy disks = £0.50

Facsimile Services

  • UK and Ireland only (per sheet) = £0.75
  • European Union & worldwide (per sheet) = £1.50
  • Incoming faxes (per sheet) = £0.25

Renewing items

You can renew items in person, by telephone or online.

To renew by telephone call 0845 071 4343. Please have your library card number ready.

To renew items online click on the libraries catalogue link (please note you will need your PIN number -  available from the library desk).

Libraries Catalogue Online

All our libraries stock a wide variety of books - both fiction and non-fiction. The majority of our stock is listed in our TALIS computer-based catalogue. Our catalogue includes all fiction material in our reserve collection, Our Retro-conversion Project Team are currently loading details of non-fiction items held in this valuable resource.
