'Make A Change' - Get Moving Week (Mon 25 - 31 January 2010)

Did you feel like you ate too much over the festive holiday or are you struggling to start your new year's resolution of getting more active? Then 'Get Moving Week' is the ideal time to start with Haringey's Leisure Centres once again offering adults (16 years plus) the opportunity to try out some of the many exercise classes for FREE!

'Get Moving Week' will run for one week from Monday 25 January - Sunday 31 January. All you have to do is complete the voucher form and hand one in to a member of the reception team for each exciting classes you would like to try. A voucher is available in the attached files section.

Classes included range from energising Zumba Fitness, Spinning, Aqua Fitness, Capoiera, Belly Dancing, Brazilian and Caribbean Rhythyms. For those looking for a more holistic approach to exercise then there is Pilates, Tai Chi, Iyenga and Hatha Yoga. A timetable of the classes is available in the attached files section with information on which centre is hosting the classes.

Park Road hosts a wide range of classes and many new classes have been introduced over the recent months in our Active Studio. Why not try one of our enjoyable classes such as the Latin based Zumba Fitness, Salsa, Tai Chi or Belly Dancing.

If you are a fitness fan who likes to drive themselves to their limit we have classes like Active Pump and Hardcore Abs and Back or if you prefer the more holistic approach to exercise we have Iyenga and Hatha Yoga as well as Pilates for all levels.

Swimming courses

All lessons are instructed by qualified ASA staff. Lessons are 25 minutes long. Swimmers will be allowed on poolside 5 minutes before the start of the course. Badges and certificates can be earned, and are included in the price of the lesson.

Children's swimming

Carer and Baby 6 - 23 months

  • Tuesday or Thursday:10.30am - 11am / 12pm - 1pm
  • Friday: 2pm
  • Sunday: 6pm

Carer and Baby 18 months – 3 years

  • Monday: 10.30am
  • Tuesday or Thursday: 10am or 11.30am
  • Friday: 2.30pm

A course for very young children and their parents to safely introduce them to the pleasures of water. Children should be 5 months old, have had their ‘triple injections’ and be able to hold their head up.

Carer and Baby 2 – 3 years

  • Tuesday or Thursday 12.30pm

Carer and Baby 3 – 5 years

  • Monday 10am
  • Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am - 1.30pm

A course designed to safely introduce children to the pleasure of water.

Absolute Beginners

  • For children who cannot swim. They will learn confidence in the water and will be able to swim 5 metres before progressing to the next level.

Level 1: For children who can already swim 5 metres (front and back). They will improve their skills and learn to swim up to 10 metres (front and back).

Level 2: For children who can already swim 10 metres (front and back). They will be introduced to swimming breaststroke and learn to swim up to 25 metres (1 length of the pool – front and back).

Level 3: For children who can already swim 25 metres (front and back). They will be introduced to swimming breaststroke and learn to swim up to 100 metres (front and back).

Level 4: For children who can already swim 100 metres (front and back). They will be introduced to inverted butterfly, learn good techniques on front, back and breaststroke. They will also learn to swim up to 200 metres (front and back).

Level 5: For children who can already swim 200 metres (front and back). They will learn to tread water, shallow dive, and swim under water for 5 metres. They will also progress to swim 800 metres (front and back).

Level 6:For children who can already swim 800 metres (front and back). They will learn to demonstrate good techniques in all 4 strokes. They will learn sculling and turning correctly. Timed swims will also be introduced.

Adult swimming (16+ years)

Level 1: From beginners to 10 metres swimming (front and back).

Level 2: From 10 metres to 25 metres swimming (front and back). With the introduction of breaststroke.

Level 3: From 25 metres swimming (front and back). With the introduction of inverted breaststroke.

Level 4: From 100 metres to 200 metres (front and back). Showing good technique in front, back and breaststroke.

Women Only swimming (16+ Years)

All classes are taught by women instructors in privacy.

Levels are the same as for the adult swimming (see above).

Special Needs swimming (adult and children)

Lessons are instructed by teachers with Special Needs qualifications. Enrolment must be at the teacher’s discretion, based on an assessment of the learner’s needs and ability.

Ante natal classes

Ante natal classes: Held each Wednesday from 7pm - 8pm in the warm waters of the small pool, this class contains a variety of exercises to improve flexibility, boost circulation and improve relaxation techniques to prepare and aid the body before giving birth.
