Social Cycling Groups - Social networking for cycling from British Cycling
What are Social Cycling Groups?
Social Cycling Groups are social networking for cyclists - they help cyclists find people to ride with, groups to join and rides to take part in. It provides the ideal way for people who are keen to start a cycling group to organise their rides. The social nature of the rides increases the chance of sustaining participation in cycling activities and encouraging people to ride more regularly.
Who uses Social Cycling Groups?
Social Cycling Groups are used by individuals and groups to join or organise rides. Anyone over 16 years old can create a free profile, search for and buddy up with riders in their area, or create rides for friends, colleagues and local cyclists to join.
How can it work for me?
As a flexible online resource, groups and rides can be as specific or open as required, whether they are commuter routes, training rides or women only groups. Rides and groups can be created quickly and easily, allowing you to make them public so others can search for them, or private so you invite others to join.
Here are some tips to get you started:
- Register for a free account on the Skyride website (external link) and join Social Cycling Groups. Click on 'Dashboard' at the top right corner of the screen and follow the prompts
- Go to the 'Groups' tab and create a public group for your team, colleagues or friends, adding a photo and description. Arrange rides from your group by clicking on 'Create a ride' and filling in the details
- You can send direct invites to join your group and rides to people you are 'buddied up' with. Go to the 'Buddies' tab and search for cyclists in your area using your location and add them as a ride buddy
- You can speak to people who join your group and rides in the 'Conversations' tab. Simply post a message and people can reply
- Add extra people as 'Administrators' for your group so they can invite people to join and create rides too

|Back to topInclusive and Accessible Cycling

Participation in cycling by people with a disability has increased by over 20% since 2008. Currently there are 200,000 people with a long term limiting disability cycling once per week. Cycling is one of the most inclusive and accessible sports. However, we are aware that there is more that we can do to improve both the provision and the promotion of cycling and further increase the number of people with a disability who enjoy cycling. Watch this space for information on accessible cycling groups coming to Haringey soon!
