Playbuilder Project

More than just swings and roundabouts

Children in Haringey are set to benefit from exciting and stimulating new play equipment with plans to invest £1.6m over the next two years.

In March 2009 Haringey received ‘Playbuilder’ funding amounting to £1.1m. We will contribute £500k to the project.

‘Playbuilder’ funding comes from the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and is part of a £235m Government investment in children’s play, aimed at ensuring children across the country benefit from innovative and adventurous play sites.

The development of 22 new or existing play areas will take place over the next two years, broken down in the following way:

  • minimum of 11 play areas developed in 2009/2010
  • further 11 play areas developed in 2010/2011

The essence of the project is not just about using traditional equipment such as swings or roundabouts. It is about creating new, innovative and exciting play areas that are safe and assessable, through the creation of natural and imaginative play elements.
