Paignton Park

Planned Improvements

Following on from the successful work carried out over summer 2009 to improve the playground in Paignton Park, through the improvements in the toddlers' area and the creation of a natural play space, Recreation Services will carry out a second phase of works to start in early 2010.

These works will be concentrated on the southern park entrance at Paignton Road and will create a community square. This will involve improving the park entrance, creating new paths, installing furniture and adding an outdoor table tennis and chess table. Recreation Services are working in partnership with Groundwork, who secured money for the scheme through working with the Friends of Paignton Park. £75,000 has been raised for the park for this phase of works and they will be complete in March 2010.

The plans for the second phase of works can be viewed in the attached files section below.

Completed Improvements

The first stage of works to Paignton Park saw improvements to the playground and some small landscaping works within the park.

A natural play area was constructed in the playground complementing the existing play area, and now offers children a more traditional form of play using fallen trees, mounds and rocks. Plans of the natural play area can be viewed in the attached files section below.

After the new play centre was built on St Ann’s Road a couple of years ago, the playground in Paignton Park was constructed, but play provision for small children was inadequate.

The works saw a range of new equipment for toddlers installed which has increased their enjoyment of the site. The other landscape works have made the park a more pleasant space with railing and footpath enhancements, as well as new planting and bench repairs.

New trees have also been planted in the eastern side of the park.

Plans of the park layout and the new playground can be found in the attached files section below.
