First created as a park in 1929, Markfield Park is nearly 20 acres in size and offers a range of facilities.

Markfield Park has:

Markfield Project  

The Markfield Project was established in 1979 by parents of disabled children. It’s an inclusive space for disabled and non-disabled children to play.

Markfield Beam Engine & Museum

Parking 

There is a parking area reached from the Markfield Road entrance (headroom of 2.3 metres).  

The entrance is gated and may be locked any time after 6pm.  

The gate is usually opened around 9am on weekdays.  

Parking is for: 

  • authorised users 
  • Blue Badge holders 
  • visitors the Markfield Project 
  • visitors to the Beam Engine Museum  
  • visitors to the Markfield Park café   

Anyone using the parking facilities does so at their own risk. You are strongly advised to move your vehicle before 6pm.

Green Flag Award 

Markfield Park received a Green Flag Award in 2010 and has won it every year since.

History

Part of the park is where the old Victorian sewage works used to be. The sewage works were in operation up until the 1950s. The thick walls you see in the park are part of the old sewage filter beds. The Beam Engine Museum in the park celebrates this aspect of the park’s heritage.
