Upcoming Finsbury Park 5 A Side Football Centre Consultation

The purpose of this planned consultation is to consult on:

  • the proposal of developing of a 5 a side football centre within Finsbury Park
  • the possible look and feel of the development
  • and to seek ideas on what to spend any development money on (if this is possible from the building of the proposed centre)

The consultation will cover the proposal of using the tarmac area near the Endymion Road entrance within Finsbury Park to develop a 5 a side football centre. This area is bordered on two sides by the park carriageway, on one side by general park space and on another side by railway track - see for yourself and take a virtual tour of Finsbury Park (external link).

It is anticipated that the area might accommodate a football centre with; ten 5 a side third generation type pitches for football and multi sport use, a small pavilion (with changing rooms, toilets, reception, office, meeting room, bar/social area) for users of the pitches, additional parking and cycle racks which will also all fit on the tarmac area.

Currently the area is used for casual basketball, volleyball and disabled cycling. It is anticipated that these users could be accommodated elsewhere within the park, for example on the tarmac area adjacent to the tennis courts and skate board area, without the need to convert any other existing grass area to tarmac.

Subject to the consultation process and planning permission, the council will advertise to seek a suitable partner to take this project forward, and would expect substantial access for community use of the centre at off peak times, as well as receiving some form of financial payment for reinvestment in the park.

There will be formal consultation in the near future.
