The works to build a new playground and redesign the northern park entrance at Boundary Road were completed in the summer of 2009.

In 2011 Belmont Recreation Ground was awarded a Green Flag Award for the second year runnning - this is the national standard for quality parks. Belmont's Management Plan can be viewed in the attached files section below - please note the management plan document is over 2 MB in size and may take some time to download on slower internet connections.

The Parks recent improvements have been very popular with local families using the park, as the playground now offers a better play experience. Playground markings including a scooter track (games painted onto the tarmac) have recently been installed.

A new footpath surrounding the playground was built to allow people taking a circular walk of the park to circumnavigate the playground as the old footpath went straight through the play area. This caused numerous problems with people walking dogs in the playground and parents felt that the play area was not a safe space to bring their children.

The new entrance at Boundary Road has completely removed the previous anti-social behaviour problems that were taking place there. There is now no space for fly tipping or drug dealing and the park entrance is welcoming and spacious. This has been a particularly important feature for local people living close to the park on Boundary Road as their lives were blighted for many years because of the previous problems.

In addition to the new playground and entrance, new park furniture has also been installed in Belmont. New bins, benches, picnic tables and signage now gives our park visitors a much more enjoyable visit when they come to Belmont.

Survey

In January 2007, 500 surveys were delivered to residents living near to Belmont Rec to find out their views on a plan to close the southern end of Hawke Park Road, between Boundary Road and the entrance to Belmont Recreation Ground. 110 people responded to the survey, giving a response rate of 22%, which is good for a survey of this kind. 94.5% respondents said that they would have no objection to the entrance being moved back to the junction of Boundary Road.

Works to transform the entrance, creating a better welcome to the open space are now complete. This involved relocating the entrance to Boundary Road and making the cul-de-sac of Hawke Park Road part of the Recreation Ground.

There are new gates and some of the paved areas have been grassed over. As part of the works a large number of native shrubs were planted around the edges of the Recreation Ground to provide habitat for wildlife and add some interest and variety to the large grassed area.
