Park User Survey Results 2009

Haringey Council conducts the Park User Survey with the aim of gathering information from residents on how, when, where and why they use the borough’s parks – and what they think of them.

The information provides usage, satisfaction and quality information on a borough basis but can also be broken down by each site mentioned. This gives the council the ability to show continuous improvement year on year. The results also inform key performance indicators and enable us to benchmark with other local authorities who take part in the same survey.

In September 2009 questionnaires were sent to nearly 10,000 Haringey residents seeking their views on the borough's parks and open spaces.

71.5 percent of people who responded to the survey are satisfied with the condition of parks and facilities within them, compared to a national figure of 65 percent.

This shows a continual improvement in the maintenance and provision of all facilities over the last four years - a percentage increase of 8.6 percent since 2005.

Results from the 2008 survey were instrumental in driving forward the £500,000 Parks and Open Spaces Improvement Programme that took place in 2009 and which saw extra bins and benches installed; pathways and sports areas within parks resurfaced and fences repaired, painted and erected.

Results from this years’ survey will be used to plan for further improvements and will be included in the daily management of the borough's parks and open spaces, helping to form long term aims and objectives in individual park management plans.

These ensure that recommendations made and improvements needed that cannot be implemented straight away, are scheduled in for future years.
