What you can do to help
Fit locks and use them
Crime Prevention is Everybody’s Responsibility!
The most effective way to avoid becoming a victim of residential burglary is to fit good quality locks and to ensure that you use them. If you would like advice about fitting locks and improving the security of your property please contact the Police Crime Prevention Team on 020 8345 2164.
If you are over 60 years and concerned about the security of your property you can contact Metropolitan Care and Repair on 020 8829 8310. They will carry out a security audit of your property and can provide a range of security improvements free of charge. Please visit the Metropolitan Care and Repair website (see the external links section below) for more information
|back to topConsultations
Haringey Community and Police Consultative Group are carrying out their annual survey on the local policing priorities for 2009/10.
They want to make sure that when the Metropolitan Police Authority and the Metropolitan Police Service plans how they will provide a police service for Haringey, they understand what is important to the people who live and work here.
- Please visit the survey at the Haringey Community and Police Consultative Group website (see the external links section below). This survey should only take about five minutes of your time
Anti Social Behaviour Strategy Consultation
In revising this strategy, we have held discussions with all key partners and colleagues, and have opened our findings up for public comment.
The consultation on this has now closed and the results are available in the attached files section below.

Partners
Haringey Council has been working for some time now with the Metropolitan Police and other agencies to reduce crime in our borough. The police should not have to work alone to tackle the issues relating to crime. Together with our partners we have formed the Haringey Safer Communities Partnership.
Our partners include:
- London Fire Brigade (external link)
- Metropolitan Police Service (external link)

Safer for All - Haringey's Community Partnership Strategy (2008 - 2011)
In this document, we outline the priorities and main areas of activity agreed by the Safer Communities Partnership for the coming three years in consultation with local people. The strategy can be downloaded from the attached files section below.
Our priorities:
From 2008-2011 the partnerships have prioritised the following issues:
- Young People – prevention and support
- Serious Crime – violence, acquisitive and domestic violence
- Anti-Social Behaviour – a focus on children and families, housing and public spaces
- Drugs and Alcohol – prevention and effective treatment
- Reducing Re-offending – adults and young people
- Increasing confidence across the Criminal Justice System
Projects
The Safer Haringey Partnership has been working together since 1998 and has achieved a number of initiatives that you may have seen around the borough including:
- A burglary reduction project in three problem areas involving the completion of security surveys and the upgrading of security where appropriate.
- A motor vehicle reduction project where primary school students were asked to re-design a poster to remind residents to remove all their belongings from their car. Primary school children therefore acted as trusted message givers by delivering the message to their parents when entering the competition and to other residents when the new poster was erected in motor vehicle crime problem areas
- Actively supporting and funding Haringey Peace Week activities.
- Operation Cubit - where so far over 1000 untaxed and unlicensed vehicles on our streets have been dealt with.
- The expansion of Hearthstone, a friendly centre where domestic violence survivors can access the best possible services and support in a co-ordinated manner, in one place.
- The establishment of the Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team to deal with incidents of anti-social behaviour in the borough.
These are just some of the initiatives in which we have been involved. We have also tried to capture as much of our activity, past, present and future and combined this with information that you may find useful in this section of the site.
