Consultation on next stage of area planning

What we’re consulting on

Each of the borough’s seven Area Committees are developing an Area Plan - focusing activity on the key issues that matter to local people.

As part of the Council’s new governance arrangements seven Area Committees were established under the Council’s constitution and were convened for the first time in June 2011. These Committees meet quarterly and their terms of reference include a commitment to develop an area plan which will set out priorities for the year.

Each of the borough’s Area Committees is currently in the process of developing an Area Plan – to focus activity on the key issues that matter to local people.

Last autumn we asked local residents to tell us their key priorities for their areas. The findings of the ‘Your Area -Your Priorities’ consultation can be viewed in the attached files section below.

We now want your views to help set the priorities and actions that will go into your local area plan.

How we’re consulting

Throughout January and February each Area Committee is hosting an Area Planning workshop to:

  • Set priorities
  • Engage local people and gather ideas for potential activity to go into the local plan

These workshops are an opportunity to meet residents and service providers from your area, to have your say on priorities and work together by:

  • sharing local knowledge and information
  • solving local problems
  • targeting limited resources at identified need
  • monitoring how money is used
  • making decisions

Next steps

The discussion at the workshops will inform first drafts of the Area Plans. Council Officers will then engage with relevant parts and Council services to negotiate what ideas for activity can be put into action. Feedback from negotiations will be circulated to those who attended the workshops.
