A baby's birth must be registered within 42 days of its birth.
An appointment is necessary for registering births, which can be completed any week day during the Register Office opening times: Tel 020 8489 2605.
We register all births that occur in Haringey. As we have no hospital maternity unit within the borough, we take birth declarations from parents of babies born outside the borough and forward these to the appropriate districts free of charge.
Once the declaration has been forwarded to the appropriate district, the registrar from that district will then send you a free, short birth certificate and a letter to enable you to register your baby with a doctor.
If you require a full birth certificate (showing parents' names), when you come to us to give a declaration, you will need to bring a cheque or postal order for £3.50. The certificate will then be sent to you by post from the registering office.

Either parent can register a birth, if they were married to each other at the time of the baby's birth. If parents are not married, the mother must register. If father's details are to be entered into the register, then both parents need to attend.
