Subject to Immigration Marriage and Civil Partnerships
We have a legal duty to report suspicious marriages and civil partnerships to the UK Border Agency (UKBA).
We welcome couples in genuine relationships to come to our office to give their notice of marriage or civil partnership. The Haringey Register Office is a Designated Register Office. This means that we can take your Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership if you are subject to immigration control or have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
Your notice can be taken and we can marry or enter you into a Civil Partnership regardless of whether or not you live in Haringey. You can also give your notice at the Haringey Register Office and still get married elsewhere.
Please note that where one or both parties are subject to immigration control or have ILR both peoples notices must be given at the same time.

Why choose the Haringey Register Office?
Compared to some other register Offices we have shorter waiting times making us the perfect location for any person subject to immigration control or who has Indefinite Leave to Remain to give notice of marriage/civil partnership. Wedding and civil partnership ceremonies are available within three weeks of notices being taken.
We can see people living in North London, Haringey, Enfield, Waltham Forest, Barnet, Camden, Islington, Hertfordshire or anywhere in England and Wales.
We are only 5 minutes walk from Wood Green Underground Station (Piccadilly Line) with a nearby overground station at Alexandra Palace.
|Back to topAbolition of Certificates of Approvals (COAs)
From the 9 May 2011 Certificates of Approval can no longer be used in order to give notice of marriage or civil partnership. From this date forward we will need to see the following before we can take your notice of marriage or civil partnership:
- Proof of name
- Age
- Nationality
- Address
The best way to satisfy us of the above is to supply us with your current passport or government issued ID card, along with a recent proof of address such as a bank statement, phone, gas or electricity bill.
If you do not have the necessary documentation along with the notice fee we will not be able to take your notice. Further information about coming to the UK to get married or form a civil partnership can be found on the UKBA (external link) website.
|Back to topIf you are adopted
If you are adopted you take the nationality of the adopted parent regardless of whether or not they are married. We would need to see your adoption certificate and parents birth certificate if you are adopted and are not using a Passport/ID Card as proof of nationality.
|Back to topSham Marriages and Civil Partnerships
Getting married or entering into a civil partnership does not give a person an automatic right to stay in the United Kingdom. Couples who are subject to immigration control are advised to seek advice from the UKBA and apply for any necessary visas. It is a criminal offence to attempt to or enter into a marriage or civil partnership in order to get around the Immigration Rules. Giving false information in order to procure a marriage is a serious offence and one partner or both could be prosecuted and convicted for Perjury or other offences
