British Citizenship

New - You can now book your Citizenship Ceremony by completing our Citizenship Ceremony Booking Form (Word, 35KB).
Citizenship Ceremonies
Every week Haringey holds ceremonies for people becoming British Citizens. The ceremonies are held every Friday in the Council Chambers of the Civic Centre in Wood Green. You can normally hold your Citizenship Ceremony with us the same week you get confirmation of your British citizenship from the Home Office. You must state Haringey as the venue for your ceremony when submitting your citizenship application to benefit from our short waiting times.
|Back to topAbout your Citizenship Ceremony
New Citizens are required to make an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to the crown and a promise to be a good citizen. The ceremony lasts about 20 minutes and includes an introduction from the Superintendent Registrar, a presentation of Certificates by the Mayor, Past Mayor or Haringey Councillor, the National anthem, and afterwards an opportunity to take photos.
The fees already paid to the Home Office cover the cost of the ceremony.
Oath
"I swear by Almighty God that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her heirs and Successors, according to law."
Affirmation
|Back to top"I do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her Heirs and Successors, according to law."
Arranging your Ceremony
New citizens will receive a letter from the Home Office informing them that they have been granted British Citizenship. At the same time the Home Office will send us your certificate. The letter states you should call us within 14 days. We cannot book an appointment for you until we have received your certificate. To book your ceremony please call 020 8489 2604 / 2605 or complete a Citizenship Ceremony Booking Form (Word, 35KB) and email it to registrars@haringey.gov.uk
Even if you do not live in Haringey we are still happy for you to have your Citizenship Ceremony with us. We can normally offer you a ceremony in the same week that your application for citizenship has been approved. Our venue is only 25 minutes from Central London via the nearby Wood Green Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line, making us the ideal venue if you need to get quickly to work after your ceremony. If you live outside Haringey and want to have your ceremony with us please write on your Nationality Checking Service application form that you would like to hold your ceremony in Haringey.

There is also an option to have an individual ceremony, with prices starting from £100 for ceremonies held in the Civic Suite Ceremony Room. The aim in providing this service is to cater for people who would like to make it more of an occasion.
Private citizenship ceremonies can also be held at any of our approved premises. Once you have booked a hall within Haringey, you can call us to arrange a Registrars attendance. The individual ceremony is not designed for people who want to have the ceremony sooner than the offered date. Please contact the Citizenship team by calling 020 8489 2604 / 2605 or send an email to registrars@haringey.gov.uk if you would like more details on arranging an individual ceremony.
