Births, Deaths and Marriages

Haringey Council Registration and Citizenship Service

Our service deals with the following:

  • Registers births, marriages and deaths occurring in Haringey
  • Conducts civil marriages at the Register Office and other approved premises for civil marriages and register marriages in certain religious buildings within Haringey
  • Provides copies of births, marriages and deaths certificates that have occurred in Haringey since 1837. You can now request a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate online.
  • Conducts Citizenship Ceremonies and presents new Citizens with their certificates of Naturalisation
  • Offers the Nationality Checking Service.
  • Registers places of worship.

Opening times

Monday to Friday: 9.30am to 12.30pm or 2pm to 4pm.

From 1 August 2008: This office will be closed all morning on the first Thursday in the month, every month. This is for training purposes.

Birth registrations, marriage notices, Citizenship Ceremonies and Nationality Checking Service by appointment only.

The whole of the Register Office is on the ground floor and is fully accessible to wheelchairs and people with disabilities. Baby-changing facilities and disabled toilets are also available.

Help in an emergency

If you need urgent help outside opening hours (eg: if a burial has to be within 24 hours because of religious beliefs), you should telephone the Council's emergency number 020 8489 3148. You will then be given the mobile number of the Registrar on duty who will liaise with you to issue the necessary certificate.

How to get to the Civic Centre

Haringey's Civic Centre is easily accessible by public transport.

  • Buses: numbers 29, 121, 232, 221, 329, W4 and mobility buses stop outside the Centre.
  • Underground: Wood Green underground station (Piccadilly line) is a short walk from the Centre.
  • Car: There is limited parking at the front of the building. Nearby streets have pay and display facilities.
