Children’s Networks Multi-Disciplinary Teams
A central part of the development of Children’s Networks in Haringey has been the co-location of staff in three network-based multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs).
Who are in the MDTs?
Each team is made up of staff from a range of specialisms who support children and young people with additional needs. This includes:
- Education Psychologists
- Education Welfare Officers
- Behaviour Support Teachers
- Language Support Teachers
- Autism Teachers
- Family Support Workers
- Parent Support Advisors
- Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Officers
- Early Years Practitioners
- other staff delivering targeted support to children and young people
What do MDTs do?
The formation of these teams will deliver support for children, young people and families through a more integrated and joined-up approach, with staff working in partnership with staff in universal settings to deliver the ‘team around the child’. These teams will increasingly:
- jointly plan assessments and interventions and monitor and evaluate the quality of work;
- work together to plan support for the whole Children’s Network, particularly in relation to identifying patterns of need and working preventatively to empower universal services;
- share their specialist expertise so that each member of the team understands one another’s professional contribution and has the opportunity to develop their own skills through joint working and professional development;
- share information with each other at an individual casework and institutional level to avoid duplication, co-ordinate their response, and identify and address gaps in provision;
- have common systems of working – planning, assessment, delivery, recording, sharing information, liaising with other professionals and engaging with families.
