HIV/AIDS Support

Providing good quality care for young children has always been a high priority in Camden, Haringey and Islington.

The number of children known to have HIV or AIDS is still small, but there are a growing number of children affected by the condition through illness of:

  • family members
  • friends
  • or others that are known to them.

Workers and carers looking after young children are often in the unique position to offer care and support to children and their families affected by HIV or AIDS.

The booklet in the attached files section below offers guidance for dealing with the every day issues raised by HIV.

It does not replace the policies developed across the Councils, nor does it remove the need for training.

HIV and AIDS incorporate a number of delicate subjects which should always be approached with sensitivity and in the context of religious and cultural backgrounds.

We hope workers and carers will be able to use the information in this guide in a wide range of situations to provide the best care possible for our children.
