At what age does my child receive the grant?
Your child will receive the grant in the term following his/her third birthday:
Term dates:
- 1 Sept – 31 Dec
- 1 Jan – 31 March
- 1 April – 31 August
Do I need to be a resident of Haringey?
No, but your child must attend an eligible setting within the borough of Haringey.
|back to topWhat is an eligible setting?
An eligible setting is a Nursery/Pre-school Playgroup that is a member of the Early Years Development & Childcare Partnership and therefore accepts the grant for your child.
|back to topWhat does the Nursery Education Grant pay for?
The grant will pay for up to 5 sessions per week during term time. Each session amounts to 2.5 hours.
|back to topHow much money is the grant worth?
The current amount paid by the grant is up to £559 for a 13 week term and £516 for a 12 week term, depending on the number of sessions that your child attends. The grant will only pay for sessions of 2.5 hours therefore, if your setting has sessions that are longer than 2.5 hours, you will be required to pay top-up fees. These fee's are subject to change annually at the beginning of each financial year April.
|back to topHow much do I have to pay?
The grant is paid directly to the setting on your child’s behalf, you need to speak to your setting to find out how much you will be paying in addition to the grant.
|back to topIf my child goes to a school nursery, can I claim the grant as well?
No. If your child is attending a school nursery they are already receiving free education, therefore you cannot claim the Nursery Education Grant as well.
|back to topCan I claim the grant with a Childminder?
No, not at present.
There is an approved NCMA ‘Children’s Come First Network’ which is based in Noel Park and Woodside ward. This network is quality assured, however it is not an accredited network and therefore childminders on the network are not eligible to receive the grant.
|back to topWhen do the settings claim the grant for my child?
The Early Years settings put in claims for the Nursery Education Grant, at the beginning of each term. If your child joins after the claims have been put in, you will have to wait till the following term to claim.
|back to topIf my child attends a Nursery at an independent school, can I claim the grant?
You may claim the grant if the Independent school is a member of the Early Years Development & Childcare Partnership.
