Hornsey School for Girls

Hornsey School is the only Local Authority girls school in Haringey.

The school is a genuinely inclusive, diverse, multi-cultural community and is one of London’s highest achieving comprehensive girls schools, committed to continuous improvement.

In Summer 2007, 61% of Year 11 students obtained 5+ A*-C passes at GCSE (49% including English and Mathematics).

In May 2007, Ofsted judged the school to be ‘outstanding’ overall, placing it among the top 11% of schools in England. According to the Ofsted report

"Hornsey School for Girls is a highly effective school where there is no room for complacency. It really is an outstanding place to be. The key to the school’s success is the way that leaders at all levels are completely focused on helping all the students to achieve as well as they possibly can. Each and every student matters and staff ensure that all flourish in an atmosphere of high expectations and positive thinking. The track record of improvement over the last 3 years is outstanding, demonstrating that there is an excellent capacity to improve further."

Since September 2004 the school has been the lead school in a leading edge partnership.

Hornsey is a specialist school for performing arts and has been designated as a high performing specialist school enabling it to have a second specialism in Humanities since April 2007.

The school has been awarded

  • the British Council International School Award
  • the Healthy School Award
  • and is an Investors in People organisation (Re-recognition awarded in November 2007).
