Schools Equality Scheme

Haringey Council’s Equalities team have published guidance documents for schools to use when developing their School Equality Scheme.

In line with the duties under race, gender and disability equality legislation all schools are required to develop a School Equality Scheme. The schemes will outline what actions schools will take to promote equality and challenge discrimination for pupils and staff over the next three years. In addition to race, gender and disability Haringey Council are advising schools to set objectives around the promotion of religion and belief and sexual orientation equality.

Haringey’s Equality team have been working with schools, including Earlham Primary, Hornsey School for Girls and Coleraine Park Primary to develop a framework that local schools can use to develop their schemes.

Each school will develop their own objectives, some of which will include promoting equal access and participation, tackling bullying and harassment and challenging unfairness within exclusions, admissions and educational attainment.

You can find the guidance documents in the attached files section below.

School Equality Schemes will be assessed during Ofsted inspections and Haringey’s Equalities team will continue to work with schools to ensure they are meeting their duties in this area.
