Deprivation Funding
The delegation of resources for children with additional and special educational needs (AEN/SEN).
We made significant improvements in 2008 to our funding of schools with the greatest numbers of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. This followed consultation with governors and head teachers in autumn 2007 about how much in total schools should receive for deprivation and how this sum would be distributed between schools.
The response to the consultation was favorable to the change and the Schools Forum considered that the move would mean that resources are distributed more fairly and equitably between schools.
Denise Tunstall, chair of the School Forum, said:
It is important that this funding is allocated to the schools that work in the most challenging circumstances. The forum represents schools across the borough and considers that resources should be focused where the need is greatest.
