Building Schools for the Future at Moselle, William C Harvey and Woodside High schools

The new Inclusive Learning Campus (ILC) will bring together students from Woodside High and students from a new special school created from the upper schools of Moselle School and William C Harvey School, Riverside.

An Inclusive future

The new building for Riverside will fully integrate the campus with classrooms and teaching spaces, and changing rooms which will be shared by both schools for sport. The school will include a hydrotherapy pool, accessible classrooms throughout and accommodate up to 120 students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, General Social Disorder and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. Making a real difference

The school is already benefiting from a three storey building, Birch block, for English, Maths, Science and modern languages which was completed in September 2010. Another new building, Cedar block, has just been completed and includes facilities for Art, Drama and Music and has two teaching and learning spaces for Riverside pupils for Art and Drama. The block will be fully accessible and create a link to the whole school. You can read a case study of the new Science facilities in the attached files section.

The new Riverside building will include sports changing facilities and house a shared main entrance for the whole campus when it is completed in September 2011

The main features of this project will include:

Block Y ICT hub

  • Construction of a new secondary Inclusive Learning Campus
  • Construct a new 3 storey building for Woodside High with adaptable teaching accommodation
  • A new two storey building for Arts, Music, Drama and Learning resource Centre. This will also include two accessible classrooms for Riverside.
  • A new block for Riverside school, that will also house the main entrance for the whole campus.
  • Creation of canopied walkways linking the various blocks within the site
  • New cabling, server rooms and floor distributors for ICT throughout the entire school

Making it Happen

This scheme was granted planning permission in March 2008

The project went on site in June 2008

Estimated Project Completion Date: Autumn 2011

The architect for the project is Penoyre and Prasad. The contractor is Apollo Group. Find out more in Meet the Contractors.

Environmental information

The scheme at Woodside High ILC aims to achieve an independent environmental rating (BREEAM) of ‘Very Good’.
