Making a real difference

Inside the new LRC

The new facilities at Hornsey School for Girls are enabling new ways of teaching and learning, and feature:

  • A new Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and an Administration Facility with a canopy to provide a covered link
  • A new Post 16 suite
  • Refurbishment of Craft and Design Technology (CDT) spaces and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Disorder (BESD) spaces. The BESD space helps to support students with behavioural emotional and social difficulties
  • New power and data infrastructure throughout the school. This will better connect computers and communication systems
  • A personalised learning and achievement area

Making it Happen

Key project dates:

A refurbished CDT room

The scheme was granted planning permission in June 2008.

Construction work began on the project in May 2009.

New facilities for Design Technology were first open to the school in early 2010.

The architect for this project was TP Bennett.

The contractor was Apollo Group. Find out more in Meet the Contractors.

Environmental information

The new Apple Mac suite

The programme at Hornsey School for Girls aims to achieve an independent environmental rating (BREEAM) of 'Very Good'. The regeneration will create a green school with the accent on nature and outdoor activities. The school will be transformed through new planting and biodiversity gardens, promoting its Healthy School status.
