New ICT suite

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) at Hornsey school for Girls

The school has a clear vision for the future to create a strong performance arts ethos and create a healthy learning environment that is accessible and welcoming for students, staff and the community.

The main features of the project will be:

  • A new Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and an Administration Facility with a canopy to provide a covered link
  • The creation of a Post 16 suite by refurbishing vacated administration and library areas
  • Refurbishment of Craft and Design Technology (CDT) spaces and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Disorder (BESD) spaces. The BESD space helps to support students with behavioural emotional and social difficulties
  • New power and data infrastructure throughout the school. This will better connect computers and communication systems
  • There will also be a personalised learning and achievement area.

The architect for the school is TP Bennett. The contractor is Apollo Group. Find out more in Meet the Contractors.

The scheme was granted planning permission in June 2008.

The project went on site in May 2009.

New Design Technology classrooms have been completed for the start of the new school year.

Estimated Completion Date: April 2010

Environmental Information

The programme at Hornsey School for Girls aims to achieve an independent environmental rating (BREEAM) of ‘Very Good’. The regeneration will create a green school with the accent on nature and outdoor activities. The school will be transformed through new planting and biodiversity gardens, promoting its Healthy School status.
