Building Schools for the Future (BSF) at Alexandra Park

This £3.8 million project was completed in Summer 2010. Today students and staff are now enjoying facilities created as part of Building Schools for the Future (BSF).

Making a real difference

The new Sixth Form block

The new facilities at Alexandra Park School are enabling new ways of teaching and learning, and feature:

  • a new sixth form centre with a teaching training base
  • remodelled Science block with new facilities
  • infill of the atrium creating new classrooms and teaching spaces
  • a new Student Support Centre for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) with space dedicated to students with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD)
  • a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for use by the school and the local community
  • new cabling, server rooms and floor distributors to improve the ICT.

Making it Happen

The scheme was granted planning permission in February 2009

Construction work began in May 2009

The science block and SEN area were being used for teaching and learning in Spring 2010.

The Architect for this project was TP Bennett.

Environmental Information

The project at Alexandra Park school aims to achieve an independent environmental rating (BREEAM) of 'Very Good'. In addition, the school will work closely with Capel Manor College to offer a National Diploma in Land Management; educating students about biodiversity and working in harmony with nature. The school features planting to reflect its biodiversity education.
