Bright Futures

A Strategy for Haringey’s Young People 11-19

pupil looking back in class

Our overriding vision is for all children and young people in Haringey to be:

  • happy
  • healthy
  • and safe with a bright future.

Full documentation on Bright Futures can be found in the attached files section below.

In order to realise this vision we reaffirm our commitment and our resolve to work hard to create a strong partnership with all those in our community who have a stake in the future of young people.

Above all we want to:

  • break the link between disadvantage and low achievement.
  • transform outcomes for vulnerable individuals and groups.
  • support secondary schools to be fully inclusive, to put the aspirations and achievement of the learner first, to champion the highest standards and to enjoy the confidence of the local community.
  • enable secondary schools to have a key role in neighbourhood regeneration, thereby contributing to community cohesion and achievement of race equality, and to create prosperous, inclusive and sustainable communities for the 21st century.
  • assist all our partners with a stake in the future of young people to work together to provide the best possible opportunities for young people.
  • invest in services that support young people.

The strategy is organised around five strands that all contribute to transformational change:

  1. Young People in Haringey
  2. Learning and Teaching in Haringey
  3. The Haringey Leader
  4. The Haringey Parent and Community
  5. The Haringey School

Supporting these five strands we have detailed plans for the following areas of policy and practice:

Young people smiling

  • Standards and achievement
  • Matching the curriculum to the needs of young people
  • Tackling underachievement
  • Every Child Matters: Change for Children
  • Inclusion
  • School organisation and diversity of provision
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Workforce remodelling and CPD
  • Leadership
  • Key Performance Indicators, monitoring and evaluation

We have a clear vision and direction, strong leadership and committed partners.

We have set out an ambitious agenda for change.

We have the resolve and determination to achieve our aspirations, so that we remove the barriers to underachievement and transform outcomes for the children and young people that we serve.
