Why is this needed?

Demand for primary pupil places in Haringey is projected to rise which means additional reception places will be needed in forthcoming years. Research suggests Haringey Council will need to provide 360 new reception places, creating an extra 12 forms of entry, by 2018.

What will the project involve?

The project will use refurbishment or modular classrooms to accommodate the classes and the project will last two years starting with the following schools:

Alexandra Primary School will have changes to the internal layout to provide a new reception class with direct access to the external play areas. The project will convert the existing Parents and Carers room into a classroom (infant block) and convert the existing Library into a combined Library and Parents and Carers room.

Lancasterian Primary School will feature a refurbishment of the existing classrooms to convert an existing multi-use room into a classroom and re-use the first floor accommodation as offices.

Welbourne Primary School will see the removal of the existing temporary building and the creation of a new modular classroom that will also provide extra school facilities including a school store and toilets.

When will the works take place?

Building works start at Alexandra Primary and Lancasterian Primary Schools in July 2010 and are due to complete in Autumn 2011. Welbourne Primary School is due to complete Winter 2011.
