sikh faith emblem

The main thing one has to be careful of with Sikh pupils is to be sensitive to the fact that for boys and girls their hair is of utmost importance as it forms one of the 5 Ks.

The five Ks are:

  • Kesh (uncut hair)
  • Kara (a steel bracelet)
  • Kanga (a wooden comb)
  • Kachhehra (cotton underwear)
  • Kirpan (sword)

Make sure that your hands are clean at all times and do not touch pupils’ hair without asking their permission or being sensitive to the fact that it is special.
