Curriculum and faith
It is important that schools are aware of cultural and religious sensitivities when delivering the National Curriculum. Members of some faiths may have concerns regarding delivery of the national curriculum but in fact the only subjects from which they may withdraw their children are:
- religious education
- collective worship
- sex education.
However there are ways in which schools can support parents by being aware of concerns and using resources sensitively.

Supporting the needs of Jehovah's Witness pupils
Jehovah’s Witnesses often withdraw their children from RE in school. Why?
Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that religious education is the responsibility of the child’s home and family.
They are aware that parents have an absolute right to withdraw their child from religious education (and collective worship), in whole or in part.
