School Clothing Grant
We offer assistance to eligible parents/carers by providing a one off payment to help with the costs involved in secondary school clothing for children, who are transferring to a secondary school.
Eligible parents must be a Haringey resident and in receipt of qualifying benefits
- Income support
- Income based job seekers allowance
- Child tax credit, providing not entitled to working tax credit, and has an annual taxable income, as assessed by Revenues and Customs, which from April 2008 does not exceed £15575
- The guaranteed element of state pension credit
- Supported under Part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
Application process
The application forms can be found in the attached files section below.
A one off school clothing grant of £47 will be considered for your child if they were born between 01/09/1996 and 31/08/1997 and they are transferring to a secondary school in September 2008.
To be considered you must be currently receiving one of the support benefits shown below and live in Haringey.
Two way to apply for this grant.
- Take the completed form (see the attached files section below) and the support benefit evidence, child’s date of birth and relationship evidence to your nearest customer service centre.
- Post it with clear photocopies of your support benefit evidence and your child’s date of birth evidence to the address below.
Benefit evidence must be dated within the last two months.

- Income Support (IS) or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance (IBJSA)
A letter dated within the last two months from Jobcentre Plus or DWP showing you are entitled to this benefit. Or a Post Office Account Statement / Bank Statement dated within the last two months. You can only use this evidence if it details the exact type of benefit (IS or IBJSA) payment being credited to you. The bank statement must also show your national insurance number.
- Child Tax Credit
Provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Revenue and Customs) that as at 6 April 2008 does not exceed £15575. Please submit your current financial year form TC602 Final Award Notice 2008/09. We need to see all four pages. We do not accept child tax credit notices as proof of Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance.
- Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
We need a recent Pension Credit M1000 award notice dated within the last 2 months.
Please note the letter must state clearly ’Guaranteed element’. Please submit all pages
PLUS
We also need to have proof of the child’s relationship to you and their date of birth. Please submit a photocopy of either:
- His/her long/full birth certificate.
- A letter from the Child Benefit Agency showing the child's name and their medical card.
The closing date for all applications is 31 March 2009.
