Know your rights

- Do you know that you have rights?
- Do you know what these rights are?
- Do you know what you are entitled to?
You have a Children's Rights Officer whose job it is to:
- make sure your views are heard
- give you a chance to speak out.
What is the NCH Children's Rights Service in Haringey?
- an independent service provided by NCH
- a provider of information and advice to children and young people (18 or under or leaving Haringey's care) about their rights.
Children have legal rights. There are laws that tell everyone what social services can do for you and how you should be looked after if you cannot live at home.
The Children's Rights Service in Haringey makes sure you know about these rights and that they are enforced.

What does the NCH Children's Rights Service in Haringey actually do?
- Offers independent support to looked after children and young people leaving the care system.
This means we give advice, support and guidance by someone independent from your carer or social worker about issues of being looked after. - Helps you make a complaint.
- Supports children and young people in review meetings that are making decisions about your future. We make sure your ideas are heard by the people who make the decisions about your future.
- Sets up groups and holds events where you can have your say about the services you receive and about planning your own future. Senior managers and others from Haringey attend these groups, just to hear what you have to say and try to answer any questions you may have.
- Pays travel expenses, provides hot West Indian food and mobile top up cards when you come to our groups!
