ECHO - Haringey Virtual School activities of children in care

The key stage four study club has been established since 2004 and has contributed and supported the raising of the attainment of children in care. Following this success study club has been extended to support all secondary age pupils.

We run two study support clubs each week in term time for students in key stages three and four. Please the children in care education team leaflet or contact the Haringey Virtual School of Children in Care.

Events

We organised visits and activities for our children in care, this includes football training cinema and theatre trips, days out in London and trips bowling. We also support our young people to be involved in consultations and national events.

Awards

Since 2004 we have held an annual Education Achievement Awards event at Tottenham Hotspur White Hart Lane Stadium. This event is well attended and supported by schools, children and young people’s service with the attendance of a Tottenham Hotspur Football player.

Partnership with Tottenham Hotspur

Tournament Day at Spurs Football Ground for young people and carers

Haringey Virtual School of Children in Care have worked with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation since 2004. This highly well established partnership has resulted in  a successful application to the Premier League for funding to deliver a three year programme called To Care Is To Do. This started in September 2008, part of the focus of this project will be a range of additional events, activities and opportunities for our children in care.

Education Attainment Group

The Haringey Virtual School of Children in Care Team chair a multi-disciplinary group. We contribute to the work of this group which monitors personal educational plans (PEP) and tracks the educational progress of all Haringey children in care, making sure that all services are working together to support the students.

A PEP (Personal Education Plan) consultation takes place every half term with relevant professionals to support monitoring and evaluation.

Highgate Independent School

We link with Highgate independent School. So far this has included exciting Chemistry Presentations and other opportunities to support educational aspirations for children in care.

Aim Higher

We work in partnership with Aimhigher and WICAN to support Haringey Children in Care to achieve their full potential in Further Education and Higher Education. This includes events organized with participating universities.

Tuition

We organise and offer 20 hours after school home tuition in core subjects to all students studying GCSE’s in key stages four.

We offer 10 hours tuition to Children in Care in Key Stages 2 and 3
