Every primary school child in Haringey is now eligible for free school meals, but did you know that by applying for free school meals, you are also helping schools get the valuable Pupil Premium funding?
Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to enhance learning outcomes for all students. This means that when eligible families apply for free school meals, their children's schools receive up to £1,455.
Applying for free school meals also provides access to booking for Haringey’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme, which offers free holiday camps and trips with free food during the longer school holidays.
So, if you are on benefits, a low income and your child’s school is on the list of schools that manage their own free school meals, please contact your child's school directly to apply for free school meals.

Qualifying benefits include:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (if you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of less than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit - if you have an annual net earned income of less than £7,400 (as assessed by earnings from up to 3 of your most recent assessment periods)
Children in other years
If your child is in year 3 or above, you must be in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits listed above to be able to get free school meals.
Children who get any of these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or carer, are also entitled to free school meals and should apply.
If your child is eligible and you apply, they will continue receiving free school meals until March 2025.
