Services for Children with Additional Needs and Disabilities
This section gives information about services available for children with additional needs and disabilities and their families.
More information can be found by following the links below:
- Disabled Children’s Team - the social workers in this team provide an assessment and care management service for children with disabilities
- Special Education Needs
- Student Support Post 16-19 Transport
- Short Breaks - this section explains what a short break is, how they are agreed, and how they will be developed in the future
- Breathing Space – a service which provides short breaks to families who have children with disabilities. A worker will either take the child out into the community or will remain in the family home
- Early Support - Early support is a programme designed to offer better coordinated services for families who have children with complex health needs or a disability
- Early support places in Children’s Centres - Children with some special or additional needs are eligible for funded part time places in Children’s Centres. This explains the criteria and the process
All referrals to the service, apart from those needing immediate attention, are discussed at a multi-agency meeting once a week, to make sure that services for families are properly coordinated across all the services.
