School Closures

Finding out about school closures

In the event of a school closure during the day, the school will tell parents of the closure so that arrangements can be made to collect the pupils. A recorded message stating the circumstances will be on the school’s answering machine and a notice put outside the school. We will also be told about the closure and it will be published in the latest news section of our website.

However, if a school is closed due to an incident overnight or during the weekend, again the Council will be contacted and the information made available via our website, as well as information being available through the school’s answerphone message and a notice at the front of the school. Although information will not be able to be sent home with pupils, staff will be on site to explain to parents the nature of the closure.

If you have been alerted that the school has been closed it is your responsibility to find alternative care arrangements for your child should you need to go into work.

If you are at work when your child's school is closed

Schools have contingency plans in place for emergency incidents. The safety of children is always the top priority, and no child will be left in danger or without appropriate supervision. You will be notified if you are required to collect your child from school so please make sure that you have provided the school with up to date contact information.

If you have a question that has not been answered in this section or in the other Emergency Planning and Business Continuity pages you can email your question to emergencyplanning@haringey.gov.uk and a member of the team will provide an answer as soon as possible.
