Health and Wellbeing Strategy: A Healthier Haringey

This consultation is now closed. The completed strategy will be launched in May 2012.

In Haringey we have a strong commitment to promoting equality, tackling disadvantage and improving the life chances of our residents.

Recent changes mean that public health and local authorities are now facing big challenges, particularly in relation to the budget. As a result of this, we are streamlining our plans for improving wellbeing and reducing health inequalities, and will incorporate them into one document.

We are currently developing our new Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Haringey. This strategy will replace Haringey’s Wellbeing Strategic Framework which expired in 2010.

It is proposed that the strategy will focus on:

  • Giving every child the best start in life
  • Reducing the gap in life expectancy in Haringey
  • Improving mental health and wellbeing

Improving health and wellbeing in the borough is not the sole responsibility of one or two organisations, rather the responsibility is shared amongst us all. Our proposed vision is that:

We will reduce health inequalities through working with communities and residents to improve opportunities for adults and children to enjoy a healthy, safe and fulfilling life.

This strategy will shape the work plan for the Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board.

We have consulted with our local stakeholders, partners and the wider community on the priorities for improving health and wellbeing in Haringey.

We have produced a number of documents as part of the consultation. These can be found in the attached files section below:

  • draft health and wellbeing strategy
  • draft health and wellbeing strategy: summary
  • health and wellbeing strategy consultation
  • health and wellbeing strategy consultation: easy words and pictures version

This is only a draft version of the strategy and your views will be used to produce the final version of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
