Publication date: Tuesday 28 June 2011

Haringey’s new school Heartlands High School has officially reached 'full completion'.
The school in Station Road, Wood Green is a key part of Haringey’s £200+million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme which is already significantly improving teaching and learning facilities in the borough.
Heartlands High School opened to its first ever group of students in September 2010, and the school will welcome its second group of students in September this year – when it will begin to occupy the whole building.
The £33m school features
- flexible teaching spaces
- an auditorium
- dance studio
- a Learning Resource Centre
- a sports hall
- design technology classrooms with specialist equipment
- administration room
- ICT suites
- science and food technology rooms
- three multi use games areas
- a dining hall and kitchen
- specialist facilities for young people with autistic spectrum disorder and
- office space for staff and cycle racks for up to 80 bikes.
There now remains just one BSF project which is yet to be completed; the project to transform Woodside High School, also in Wood Green.
Cllr Lorna Reith, Cabinet Member for Children said:
"This is a real milestone. The council, the school and our contractors have worked together to build the school on time and on budget. It’s been a real marvel to go past the Heartlands High School site every few weeks and see the noticeable progress to the school building. This is a first class environment for teaching and learning and a real asset for our young people. The school's facilities will also be an invaluable resource for the wider community."
Simon Garrill headteacher at the school, said:
"The completion of the school building is an exciting time for everyone connected with Heartlands High School. We now have a state of the art school with outstanding facilities. This will make a huge difference to the work we are already doing to encourage our students to have the highest of aspirations. This building is a symbol of that aspiration. It will be an amazing resource for the pupils and school staff and the local community."
