Haringey schools to take part in education conference
Publication date: Monday 11 January 2010
Students from Haringey secondary schools have been chosen to take part in a prestigious event to demonstrate ICT developments within education.
The pupils from six local schools will be attending the BETT (British Education and Training Technology) conference at London Olympia from January 14 to 17. They will be demonstrating how the latest computer software and hardware is being used to modernise Haringey secondary schools.
Improvements in ICT are a key part of Haringey Council’s £200m+ Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, which is bringing benefits to 12,000 students in the borough.
Cllr Lorna Reith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
”The BSF programme is already giving students access to inspiring ICT, which is making learning simpler and more interesting.
“I am delighted that so many of our students and schools will be sharing their positive experiences at this event.”
Students from John Loughborough School, St Thomas More, Fortismere, Highgate Wood, Northumberland Park School and Park View Academy will be taking part. This means that six of the 14 schools involved in the event are from Haringey. The conference is widely regarded as the largest educational technology event in the UK.
The students will be working in the “learning spaces” at the event with a teacher from their schools. They will also be working with an ICT expert from RM, the company which is providing ICT equipment and support to Haringey secondary schools as part of the borough’s Building Schools for the Future programme.
