Gladesmore Community School's song for Tottenham 'Everybody Dreams' is Haringey Council's 'hold' music

Publication date: Tuesday 21 August 2012

Haringey Council doesn't like to keep people on hold, but telephone callers can now enjoy listening to Gladesmore Community School's song for Tottenham 'Everybody Dreams' whilst they're waiting for their call to be connected.

To show support for ‘Everybody Dreams’ and drum up interest in advance of its release on iTunes on 19 August the council has replaced its usual on hold music with the school’s Song for Tottenham.

Customers calling Haringey Council will hear the track plus information about how they can download the song when they are waiting to speak with a member of the customer services team or on hold.

Concerned by the negative images of Tottenham that dominated the national and international news following the riots last summer, students at Gladesmore Community School felt compelled to do something about this and decided to create a campaign that would show the positive side to the place they live, learn and love.

Students wanted to write, sing and produce a single and a music video about their area, which they could launch into the national music charts this August, a year on from the riots.

The song has now been produced from hundreds of ideas put forward by the students and is called ‘Everybody Dreams’.  The song has the support and backing of local MP David Lammy, Tottenham Hotspur Football club and a host of music celebrities, television personalities and many other influential figures.

The track was recently given a Super Heavy radio mix from Eurythmics star Dave Stewart. Stewart’s backing followed the public endorsement from Mayor of London, Boris Johnson last month. Boris was overwhelmed when he saw and heard Gladesmore students performing ‘Everybody Dreams’ saying that he had “never seen so much talent in one school” and that “everyone should rally round and get the song ‘Everybody Dreams’ to Number 1 in the national music charts.”

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has also given their full backing for the song. Ledley King recently joined students on stage and new manager, Andre Villas Boas and first team players have been photographed with the ‘Everybody Dreams’ song sign as a show of support. The Club has put the student’s promotional video on their official website and Facebook page.

Other supporters include Ricky Gervais, Alan Carr, Ed Sheeran, Leona Lewis, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Marvin and Aston from JLS, Wretch 32, Chip and Rizzle Kicks along with businesses, retailers, members of the local community and Haringey Council.

Cllr Joe Goldberg, Cabinet Member at Haringey Council leading on youth and customer services urged everyone to download the single on 19 August, he said:

“The idea behind the song is brilliant and the song itself is absolutely fantastic, I love it. The students have been performing to thousands of people all over London in recent months from the Torch Relay event at Alexandra Palace to Hyde Park. They deserve to have a number one hit and be recognised nationally as the bona fide pop stars they are!”
