Green Recycling Sack Collections
Wheelie bins will be provided for residents wherever possible. However, at some properties there is not enough room in the front garden or yard for a bin, or there are too many steps down to the pavement for our collection crews to safely move a bin full of rubbish. In these locations residents will be asked to present their recycling in green sacks for the normal collection.

Do not overfill sacks, and make sure that they are securely tied up so that the contents do not spill. Please do not put any sharp objects or broken glass in your green sacks. Broken jars and bottles can be recycled using local recycling banks.
Where to put out the sacks
The sacks should be presented within the boundary of the property but as close to the front gate as possible.
What to recycle
For a more detailed list of what can be recycled, please visit the recycling a to z page.
For properties with front gardens where a recycling wheelie bin cannot be provided, the sack collections will take place at the same time as bins are being emptied elsewhere on the road.
To find out which day your sacks will be collected, please use the Veolia Haringey search form (external link).
Alternatively you can contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre:
On roads where properties do not have a front garden to store wheelie bins, we now ask businesses and flats above shops to only put their rubbish out during a 1-2 hour 'put-rubbish-out' time period each morning and evening. We do this so that we can collect the rubbish straight after you have put it out so that your streets look cleaner.
The collection schedules for roads with a timed collection service are below:
|Roads||Morning put-rubbish-out time||Evening put-rubbish-out time|
|Green Lanes||Between 7.30am and 9am||Between 9pm and 11pm|
|Turnpike Lane||Between 8.30am and 10am||Between 10pm and midnight|
|High Road N15||Between 8.15am and 9.45am||Between 10pm and midnight|
|High Road N17 including Bruce Grove, White Hart Lane, Northumberland Park||Between 10.30am and midday||Between 10pm and midnight|
|West Green Road||Between 7.30am and 9am||Between 6.30pm and 8pm|
|Myddleton Road||Between 7.30am and 9am||Between 9.30pm and 11pm|
|Lordship Lane||Between 9am and 10.30am||Between 11pm and 2am|
|Wood Green High Road (Wood Green to Turnpike Lane tube station)||Between 8.30am and 10am||Between 9.45pm and 11.45pm|
On main roads there will normally be two collections every day except Saturday (morning collection only), and we would ask residents to put their refuse and recycling out only in the morning or evening to help keep the streets tidy during the day.
Please note that properties above parades of shops in residential areas may not receive daily collections.
There are some locations where the Green Recycling Sack collection arrangements are different from those for the refuse collections.
This is likely to affect the following types of property:
- Blocks of flats which do have refuse bins (but where there is no space for a recycling bin)
- Properties on a mews
- Gated developments (where other recycling services cannot be provided)
The recycling collection arrangements will be quite specific to each location, so please contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre for information about where you live:
The refuse and recycling will be collected in the same vehicle, which has two separate compartments.
The recycling is put into one compartment, which is emptied at a materials recovery facility so that the different materials can be sorted out from one another. For more information on this process, please visit the Mixed-Material Recycling section of our What happens to recycling? pages.
The other compartment on the vehicle is used to collect the refuse. This compartment is emptied when the vehicle arrives at the energy-from-waste plant in Edmonton, or alternatively at one of the other transfer stations in North London (from where it will be taken to landfill).
The council will deliver a new pack of green sacks to you at regular intervals throughout the year. However, if you are running out of sacks then please contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre to order some more:
Your green recycling sacks should be delivered within 10 working days and are provided to residents free of charge.
