Dangerous vodka alert
Publication date: Friday 25 November 2011
Haringey residents are warned not to drink ‘Drop’ brand vodka, following a food safety alert from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
Drop Vodka has been found on sale in a number of places across the country. It is sold in 70cl bottles and is labelled as being made in either Italy or France, although there is no manufacturer’s name or address.
The vodka contains a dangerous ingredient called Propan-2-ol, as well as other substances which can be potentially damaging to health.
Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:
The Food Standards Agency is asking anyone who has bought any of this Vodka to dispose of it. This brand is not a copy of a real one – and there is no safe or legal version of it. I ask all shopkeepers in the borough to check if they are selling it and to immediately take action to prevent any customers from being harmed by it.
The council is contacting shopkeepers to make sure they do not sell any more and will be working with colleagues across the country to follow up any leads as to the source of supply.
Anyone with information about the storage, sale or distribution of the Vodka is asked to call the council enforcement office on 020 8489 8229.
