Scrutiny Work Programme Consultation 2016/17

The scrutiny work programme 2016/17

A new work programme is developed for Overview and Scrutiny each year. The work programme is developed in consultation with local stakeholders to ensure topics selected for scrutiny involvement:

  • Complement the priorities and work of the council and its partners
  • Reflect the concerns of local communities, and
  • Identify those issues where scrutiny can make most impact

The Consultation

A wide range of local people and organisations were consulted via an online survey in developing the work programme this year including local partners (such as NHS services, Housing Associations, Job Centre Plus), local voluntary and community groups and local businesses. In short, anyone who lived or worked in the borough were able to participate in the consultation.  The online survey closed on 31 May 2016.

What has happened to survey suggestions?

All suggestions from the consultation were discussed by members of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee together with senior officers and other local stakeholders at a 'scrutiny cafe' on 9 June 2016.  From this, a short list of priorities were identified for each of the scrutiny panels in 2016/17.

Further discussions of suggested topics took place at individual Scrutiny Panels in June and July to confirm those issues to be scrutinised in 2016/17.  A report detailing the final scrutiny work programme was then agreed by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 21 July 2016.  All agendas and relevant papers are listed on the Overview & Scrutiny Committee page.

Can I get updates on the work programme?

Yes.  Work programmes for Overview & Scrutiny Committee and scrutiny panels are reviewed and updated throughout the year and published at each meeting.  Updated work programme reports for 2016/17 can be seen via the links below from the end of July onwards:

In addition, there is a scrutiny update page  for current scrutiny information including the next meetings of Overview and Scrutiny Committee and its four standing panels, as well as copies of the latest completed reports.
